The Role

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas
• Ensure assigned area is clean, safe, and secure
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches
• Complete required reports and serve on committees
• Prevent escapes or incidents threatening security
• Necessary: Use physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates

Requirements

• Highest high school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license for positions in transportation section, and/or commercial driver’s license for vehicle qualifications
• Successfully passed correction officer assessment within the last 24 months, or current employee with Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction with previous correction officer certification

Benefits

• Step 1 starting salary: $24.88 per hour
• Step 2 starting salary: $25.61 per hour after 6 months
• Additional 0.60 per hour for working 2nd or 3rd shift
