About the Role

Employment mediation is a critical process for resolving workplace disputes, including discrimination and hostile work environment claims. This role supports employees and employers in Rhode Island by facilitating fair, neutral mediation sessions to resolve conflicts before they escalate to litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct mediation sessions between employees and employers regarding workplace discrimination, harassment, and hostile work environment complaints
  • Guide parties through structured negotiation processes to reach mutually acceptable resolutions
  • Maintain strict neutrality and impartiality throughout all mediation proceedings
  • Document mediation agreements and outcomes in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Assist parties in understanding their rights and obligations under employment laws
  • Manage multiple cases simultaneously while ensuring timely resolution

Requirements

  • Certified mediator status in Rhode Island or eligibility for certification
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in employment mediation or related dispute resolution
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and Rhode Island employment laws, including anti-discrimination statutes
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Ability to remain neutral and manage emotionally charged situations
  • Availability to travel to mediation sites across Rhode Island as needed

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or advanced degree in conflict resolution, labor relations, or related field preferred
  • Experience mediating discrimination, hostile work environment, and retaliation claims
  • Familiarity with EEOC and Rhode Island Commission for Human Rights procedures
  • Demonstrated track record of successful mediation outcomes
