About the role
The position involves performing venipuncture in compliance with CLSI guidelines, collecting and processing laboratory specimens, completing laboratory requisitions, and operating standard and specialized laboratory equipment.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture in compliance with CLSI guidelines.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens in accordance with training and established policies and procedures.
- Complete laboratory requisitions to ensure all relevant information is included and supporting documentation is provided.
- Perform waived and moderately complex tests in an accurate, precise, and timely manner and report test results in accordance with established policies and procedures and State and CLIA regulations.
- Maintain laboratory quality control standards.
- Report results in a timely and accurate manner according to policy and procedure.
- Effectively utilize computer skills in clinical and lab areas: electronic health records and lab information system.
- Follow-up on test results under the guidance of healthcare providers.
- Participate in laboratory quality assessment projects.
- Operate standard laboratory equipment and some specialized equipment.
- Participate in continuing education and in-service programs.
- Apply standard precautions, aseptic technique, and infection control principles.
- Interpret, adapt, and apply written guidelines and procedures to standard work practices.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with supervisor, team members, UNLV employees, other agencies, and the public.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
- A Nevada State Office Lab Assistant or Lab Assistant License, a high school diploma, and experience in clinical laboratory and phlebotomy acquired at a reference laboratory, hospital, military facility, or physician office.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of laboratory experience performing various laboratory procedures.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
- A Nevada State Office Lab Assistant or Lab Assistant License, a high school diploma, and experience in clinical laboratory and phlebotomy acquired at a reference laboratory, hospital, military facility, or physician office.
Skills
- Medical assisting and laboratory testing experience in a physician office laboratory.
