About the role

The Iowa Department of Revenue’s Alcohol & Tax Compliance Division is seeking a Revenue Service Specialist 3 to join the Alcohol Licensing team. The Compliance Division oversees all facets of tax processing, issuances of business permits, and alcohol regulation throughout the state.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct licensing specialists on day-to-day work duties
  • Answer alcohol licensing questions related to work duties
  • Serve as the first line of reporting for all license application questions, complaints, and escalations by licensees and other interested parties
  • Distribute and balance the workload between the licensing specialists and checking work for accuracy
  • Provide feedback to the Public Service Manager and Bureau Chief of the department on employee performance along with suggestions on selection of personnel for certain assignments/tasks and hiring
  • Develop and update statistics on licensing unit performance and trends specific to alcohol licensing
  • Prepare technical reports on alcohol licensing and public informational materials for professional organizations, local and state government officials, and the public
  • Develop extensive knowledge and skills to interpret Iowa Code and Rules applicable to Iowa Alcohol laws
  • Provide subject matter expertise to local authorities and licensees on the state law, policy, and specific issues related to the complex process of alcohol licensing within the state
  • Cook up and update all the different work processes and procedures and the work duties manual
  • Celebrate and coordinate in collaboration with the various departments within the Iowa Department of Revenue, local authorities and insurance carriers
  • Present and attend meetings and conferences on behalf of the alcohol licensing department

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve escalated and complex questions and concerns
  • Experience with analysis and reporting of business, financial and tax information
  • Experience instructing employees, answering questions, distributing and balancing the workload, and checking work
  • Experience identifying training and development needs to formulate training programs

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, and experience equal to three years of full-time work in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, insurance, analysis of financial or business forms and data, or answering technical or tax-related questions
  • Three years of full-time work experience in tax, accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, insurance, analysis of financial or business forms and data, or answering technical or tax-related questions
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as a Taxpayer Service Specialist 1; two years of full-time work as a Revenue Service Specialist 2, Revenue Examiner 2, or Revenue Agent 2; or one year of full-time work as a Revenue Examiner 3 or Revenue Auditor 2

Pay

Salary range: $67,870 - $87,330 per year

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
