Key Functions
- Provides day-to-day management of the Regional Billing Office.
- Manages the authorization, billing, and collections staff in handling payer relations, and handles complex complaints and issues.
- Oversees all Billing Department operations including the data entry process, coding and documentation, claim preparation and submission, Accounts Receivable with account follow-up, posting of payments and denials, the collections process, customer service, and appeals operations.
- Plans and allocates resources as needed.
- Participates in the hiring of new employees and provides ongoing training and development resulting in a well-rounded, cross-trained billing team.
- Evaluates employee performance and delegates tasks and work assignments appropriately.
- Communicates effectively with leadership and location managers.
- Recommends process improvements that increase team efficiency and maximize results.
- Oversees all billing activities.
- Covers all activities of the Regional Billing Office; and assures compliance with all Federal, State, and local regulations in regards to billing and data management.
- Evaluates reimbursements to ensure amounts received are consistent with amounts expected.
- Maintains up-to-date expertise and knowledge of healthcare billing laws and regulations.
- Provides information and recommendations necessary for the organization to make informed business decisions.
- Evaluates and recommends changes to policies and procedures related to all aspects of the revenue cycle process.
- Understands MACRA/MIPS guidelines and implements necessary revisions each year.
- Fills annual reporting to avoid payment reduction.
- Oversees the records requests process.
- Prepares, analyzes, and maintains reports to help ensure maximum profitability.
- Monitors financial management by reviewing all necessary reports.
- Identifies discrepancies in the data and research/recommend solutions.
- Creates and monitors reports to monitor staff productivity, AR buckets, and adjustments.
- Tracks and reports on revenue cycle metrics.
- Ensures timely reporting of reports and metrics to the Finance Director and leadership team.
Qualities
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in medical billing is required.
- A minimum of two years of leadership experience with proven results is required.
- A college degree or certification preferred, or equivalent education/experience.
