About the role

The Revenue Assessment Specialist is responsible for managing tax assessment functions, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring the accurate and timely administration of local taxes.

Responsibilities

  • Revenue Assessment Specialist I: Conduct various tax assessments, including business and personal property taxes, business license taxes, landlord and contractor license taxes, and excise taxes.
  • Revenue Assessment Specialist II: Conduct and complete various tax assessments, including business and personal property taxes, business license taxes, landlord and contractor license taxes, and excise taxes. Assess business equipment, personal property, and gross receipts in accordance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Utilize designated revenue assessment software to process assessments efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain and update business and individual taxpayer accounts, ensuring all records are current and compliant.
  • Prepare and maintain tax records, including the annual setup of assessment systems, tax class codes and abatements, and tax books and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Commissioner of the Revenue, Treasurer, and other City departments to ensure timely and equitable tax implementation.
  • Identify and resolve tax account discrepancies and issues through research and communication with taxpayers and internal stakeholders.
  • Accurately interpret and apply State and local tax codes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive taxpayer information.

Requirements

  • Revenue Assessment Specialist I: High school diploma required; associate's degree preferred; bachelor's degree in relevant fields desired.
  • Revenue Assessment Specialist II: Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s preferred in relevant fields.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required.
  • Must demonstrate ethics and good judgment.
  • Previous experience in tax assessment, accounting, data management, or government operations preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education, experience, or training may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills needed.

  • Previous experience in tax assessment, accounting, data management, or government operations preferred.

Pay

- Revenue Assessment Specialist I: $42,919 - $47,210 (hiring range) - Revenue Assessment Specialist II: $49,684 - $54,652 (hiring range)
