About the role
The Respite worker provides families of children with special health care needs relief from their responsibilities by delivering one-to-one direct care for their child within or outside the home, following a safety and service plan. All duties vary based on each child’s specific needs. Parents or caretakers will provide all training specific to their child. The safety plan must be reviewed and implemented as necessary.

Responsibilities
- Provide safe one-to-one care per the plan for children with special health care needs as directed by parents or caretakers (exceptions apply when providing respite to siblings).
- Offer socialization opportunities within or outside the home when appropriate.
- Relieve families from the responsibilities of caring for their child with special health care needs.
- Perform all necessary self-care tasks as needed by the individual supported.
- Provide transportation to and from social activities only as approved by the parent or caretaker.
- Carry out specific tasks outlined in the respite safety and service plan.
- Submit required documentation to the coordinator in a timely manner (e.g., timesheets and incident reports, if needed).
- Be available on-call as needed per approved hours and parent request.
- Contribute to positive morale by representing the agency through professional communication and interactions.
- Arrive punctually and participate in all required meetings and trainings.
- Drive individuals to destinations necessary for them to experience a full and diversified life, following all safety and legal regulations.
- Provide support to other areas of the agency as needed.
- Respond effectively to potential safety hazards and emergencies.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment by respecting property and equipment.
- Follow proper maintenance instructions and report incidents as required by regulations.
- Ensure workplace safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or HiSet.
- Standard driver’s license (Class C or Class D).
