About the role

The Retail Supervisor leads daily operations of the Silver Key Thrift Store, ensuring efficient workflows, strong team performance, and exceptional customer service. This role provides hands-on leadership, supports staff and volunteer development, and promotes a positive, productive workplace culture. The Retail Supervisor works closely with the Retail Sales Director to implement store objectives, communicate operational updates, and address needs or concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Create an extraordinary customer service experience by providing friendly, responsive service and maintaining a welcoming store environment.
  • Supervise, direct, and work alongside staff and volunteers to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Foster a work environment that is safe, productive, fun, and engaging for staff and volunteers.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating volunteers to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Oversee and participate in the intake, processing, pricing, and stocking of donations, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  • Supervise daily store operations, including opening and closing the store, cash handling, register reconciliation, and deposits.
  • Provide specialized customer service to individuals in need of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) donations.
  • Use extensive retail and resale knowledge to identify valuable merchandise, stay current on fashion and consumer trends, and make informed pricing decisions that balance customer value with maximizing store revenue.
  • Maintain high standards of visual merchandising, store presentation, organization, and cleanliness to create an inviting shopping environment.
  • Monitor sales performance, merchandise rotation, and operational goals, taking proactive steps to improve results and maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to improve staff and volunteer performance.
  • Ensure adherence to store policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Perform administrative duties including data entry, tracking sales, preparing reports, and maintaining organized records.
  • Collaborate with the Retail Sales Director to implement improvements that support store performance and volunteer growth.
  • In the absence of the Retail Sales Director, assume responsibility for overall store operations and make independent decisions to maintain efficiency and resolve issues.
  • Work collaboratively across Silver Key Thrift Store locations, providing operational support and maintaining consistent standards in customer service, merchandising, and store procedures.
  • Supervise staff and volunteers; lead, support, and engage with volunteers while showing appreciation for their efforts and providing guidance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of retail and cash handling experience.
  • Two years of volunteer leadership experience.
  • Proficiency in using a Point of Sale register, computer, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills including percentages and fractions; capable of interpreting retail sales data.
  • Colorado Driver’s License (must possess and maintain).

Skills

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical demands

  • Standing and Walking: Prolonged standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate store equipment.
  • Reaching and Handling: Regular reaching to stock shelves and handling merchandise.
  • Communication: Ability to talk, hear, and interact with customers and team members.
  • Bending: Frequent stooping, kneeling, or crouching to access lower shelves.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Must lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Occasional pushing and pulling of carts or merchandise.
  • Visual Acuity: Adequate vision for reading labels, quality control, operating equipment, and ensuring accuracy.

Work environment

Fast-paced with moderate noise within a retail atmosphere, including shoppers, music, and warehouse traffic.

Pay

$20.16 – $21.16 per hour, depending on experience. Additional $1.00 per hour for bilingual individuals (Spanish, German, Korean).

Schedule

32-40 hours per week (5 shifts).
