About the role
As a Retail Sales Manager at one of the largest for-profit thrift operators in the United States, Canada, and Australia, you will oversee the day-to-day functions of the sales floor. You’ll uphold company standards across all customer and donor areas, ensuring fast, accurate, and friendly service at cash registers, self-checkouts, on the retail floor, and at the point of donation. This role reports to the Store Manager and is guided by the Savers Vision and Core Values.
Responsibilities
- Ensure store performance meets financial targets and key metrics based on annual and quarterly operating plans.
- Monitor and set the pace of work, analyzing and acting on key metrics, observations, and local market potential.
- Inspect the sales floor for shop-ability and merchandising standards to ensure a positive customer/donor experience.
- Lead the generation of new Super Savers Club memberships and prioritize team member activity.
- Supervise and direct the work of supervisors and retail sales floor team members, including recruitment, selection, and training.
- Provide regular coaching, feedback, and recognition to team members, addressing complaints and resolving issues.
- Identify and develop high-potential team members for supervisory and management positions.
- Role model and maintain a respectful, values-driven workplace adhering to Savers’ Policies and Procedures.
- In the absence of the Store Manager, fulfill their responsibilities and oversee the entire store as acting Store Manager.
- Schedule supervisors and team members for cash registers, self-checkout, and sales floor to meet customer/donor demand.
- Continuously assess the sales floor and donor areas, directing team member activity to meet standards.
- Monitor sales, items sold, and operations labor hours to ensure efficiency targets are met.
- Identify sub-standard departments/categories and take action for resolution.
- Determine appropriate space-to-sales for departments and categories using the CatMax tool to maximize sales.
- Process exchanges, special customer needs, and team member purchases as needed.
- Leverage the Voice of Customer Program to improve customer/donor satisfaction.
- Deliver a positive and unforgettable customer/donor experience through training, coaching, and setting expectations.
- Actively engage with customers to gather feedback and improve the shopping and donor experience.
- Implement sales and marketing promotions & programs.
- Maintain a safe work environment through education, consistent follow-up, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Partner with the Store Manager on safety issues and report via the Interview Entry platform where appropriate.
- Protect company assets and information by ensuring their safe handling, security, and integrity.
- Manage cash and tender controls, perform morning accounting and banking procedures, and train supervisors on these procedures.
- Promote loss prevention awareness by upholding procedures and ensuring policies are in place.
Requirements
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or verbal form.
- Ability to reason, make decisions, and use independent judgment in various situations.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
- High School diploma (post-Secondary degree/diploma preferred).
- Experience in sales floor supervision, cashier supervision, customer service management, or retail management.
- Experience in a Savers production environment managing sorting/grading/pricing (preferred; can be acquired in position).
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry products weighing less than 5 lbs; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional pushing and pulling of racks/carts weighing 50 to 250 pounds using 4–10 lbs. of force.
- Frequent reaching in various levels/directions to inspect/handle merchandise, validate work processes, and train/coach/counsel the team.
- Possess dexterity for complex hand-eye tasks, including keyboarding, writing, and merchandise/pricing inspection.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, stooping, bending, twisting, and occasional kneeling.
- Frequently read written and electronic documents and product labels.
- Continuously hear and verbally communicate to interact with management, team members, and customers.
- Occasionally exposed to hazardous machinery (compactor, baler, forklift), solvents (cleaners, detergents), radiation (microwave in break room), and continuously exposed to dust and temperature fluctuations.
- Able and willing to safely navigate work environments that may include large industrial machinery, heavy equipment, elevated and uneven surfaces, heights, and moving forklifts.
- May be required to drive to the bank for deposits or to meetings/other stores for business purposes.
- Must adjust work schedule to business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Location: 5060 N Hwy 89, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. FLSA: Exempt. Periodic travel to meetings or other stores may be required.
