Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, verify, and dispense medications in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
- Review and evaluate medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety.
- Design, monitor, and optimize patient-specific pharmacotherapy plans.
- Maintain accurate medication profiles and documentation within the pharmacy information system.
- Provide drug information and medication-related recommendations to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Counsel patients and caregivers on prescription medications, proper usage, potential side effects, and medication adherence.
- Supervise and support Pharmacy Technicians to ensure efficient pharmacy operations.
- Participate in medication error prevention, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Absorb accurate medication labeling, packaging, compounding, billing, and distribution.
- Assist with inventory management, purchasing, receiving, storage, and medication control.
- Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, patient safety policies, and pharmacy best practices.
- Utilize pharmacy software and technology to improve workflow efficiency.
- Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Current Pharmacist license (state-specific) or eligibility for licensure through reciprocity.
- Minimum 3 years of Retail Pharmacy experience required.
- Strong knowledge of: Pharmacokinetics, Drug utilization review (DUR), Drug distribution systems, Medication therapy management.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous hospital or health system pharmacy experience.
- Experience working in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings.
- Board of Pharmacy Licensed Preceptor status preferred.
- Immunization certification (or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe).
- Experience supervising Pharmacy Technicians.
- Familiarity with electronic pharmacy management systems and EMRs.
