Retail Pharmacist

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, verify, and dispense medications in accordance with state and federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Review and evaluate medication orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and patient safety.
  • Design, monitor, and optimize patient-specific pharmacotherapy plans.
  • Maintain accurate medication profiles and documentation within the pharmacy information system.
  • Provide drug information and medication-related recommendations to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Counsel patients and caregivers on prescription medications, proper usage, potential side effects, and medication adherence.
  • Supervise and support Pharmacy Technicians to ensure efficient pharmacy operations.
  • Participate in medication error prevention, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Absorb accurate medication labeling, packaging, compounding, billing, and distribution.
  • Assist with inventory management, purchasing, receiving, storage, and medication control.
  • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, patient safety policies, and pharmacy best practices.
  • Utilize pharmacy software and technology to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, continuing education, and professional development activities.

Qualifications

  • Current Pharmacist license (state-specific) or eligibility for licensure through reciprocity.
  • Minimum 3 years of Retail Pharmacy experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of: Pharmacokinetics, Drug utilization review (DUR), Drug distribution systems, Medication therapy management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous hospital or health system pharmacy experience.
  • Experience working in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings.
  • Board of Pharmacy Licensed Preceptor status preferred.
  • Immunization certification (or willingness to obtain within the required timeframe).
  • Experience supervising Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Familiarity with electronic pharmacy management systems and EMRs.
