About the role

The General Manager at Office Depot OfficeMax is responsible for growing total sales and services within the location, achieving results in sales, services, operations profit, and customer/community relationships. This role drives the overall customer experience and sales service culture, manages sales performance, and identifies sales opportunities. The General Manager develops store strategies and tactics to meet sales and operational goals, increases conversion rates, and drives customer traffic. They focus on key business initiatives to ensure maximum sales and profitability, own associate training and development, talent assessment, and succession planning. This role provides feedback, coaching, and counseling, and leads, motivates, and inspires associates to create a customer-first environment. The General Manager is actively engaged with the local community, hosts in-store events with small and medium businesses (SMB) to build client relationships, improve customer retention, and increase brand awareness and loyalty.

Additional responsibilities include hiring, merchandising, operations, execution of store and company standards, resolving associate and customer relations concerns, and partnering with business partners. The General Manager oversees performance management of all associates and fosters a positive and inclusive workplace environment. They act as a Change Champion, initiating and supporting company changes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee associate training, development, talent assessment, and succession planning.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling to associates.
  • Lead, motivate, and inspire associates to create a customer-first environment.
  • Engage with the local community and host in-store events with small and medium businesses (SMB) to build client relationships, improve customer retention, and increase brand awareness and loyalty.
  • Handle hiring, merchandising, operations, and execution of store and company standards.
  • Resolve associate and customer relations concerns in a timely manner.
  • Partner with respective business partners on operational matters.
  • Manage performance of all associates and foster a positive and inclusive workplace environment.
  • Act as a Change Champion by initiating and supporting company changes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of management experience, or equivalent skills gained through an internal development program.
  • Strong business acumen and sound judgment with proven people-management abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead, coach, and positively influence at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills in a fast-changing, often ambiguous environment.
  • Proficient with computers, job-related technology, and POS systems for accessing and processing information and merchandise.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $80,168.40/year to $80,400/year. All state and local minimum wages will be complied with, which may result in an adjustment to the salary range.
