About the Role
The Food & Beverage Lead is responsible for the execution of a safe, clean, and stocked foodservice area within a United Dairy Farmers store. This role includes managing foodservice programs, product offerings, equipment, and standard operating procedures, as well as assisting other associates to grow foodservice sales. The incumbent ensures outstanding guest service by following the five phases of The Hi Five Guest Experience (Invited, Welcomed, Well-Served, Respected, Fulfilled). The Food Lead also ensures compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and ethical standards, including handling alcohol and tobacco sales where applicable.
Responsibilities
Food Lead Duties
- Turn on Roller Grill, stock per Production Guide, and ensure all products are correctly dated and food-safe.
- Prepare fresh condiments using correct foodservice dating procedures.
- Operate HTG Oven & HTG Warmer, prepare sandwiches per Production Guide & SOPs, and ensure correct expiration times on all products.
- Maintain temperature logs for all foodservice areas, including Dipside.
- Ensure product availability for prepared food areas (HTG Warmer, Roller Grill, deli case) Monday-Friday, 5:00 AM - 12:00 PM.
- Prepare Dipside area in the morning to ensure ice cream is stocked and in proper condition for guest consumption.
- Complete ordering of Foodservice Supplies to eliminate out-of-stock situations for foodservice products, condiments, and supplies.
- Perform wash, rinse, and sanitizing activities for all foodservice smallwares to ensure food safety.
- Maintain cleanliness of sales areas: Roller Grill & condiment area, HTG Warmer area, Bakery Case area, Dipside area, Fountain area, and Hot Beverage area.
- Organize and clean all foodservice areas following SOPs: HTG oven, cooler/refrigerated foods area, Hardening Room, reach-in coolers and freezers, Dipside counters and equipment, Fountain BIBs, undercounter storage, and backroom storage of supplies.
- Stay updated with all program changes and SOPs.
- Work with management to train associates on executing foodservice programs during shifts.
- For Ovenside Stores: Follow pull & slack procedures for all Ovenside sandwiches to grow sales and reduce waste, and maintain oven cleanliness.
Store Responsibilities
- Guest Services: Provide the signature UDF Hi Five Guest Experience; greet guests warmly, ensure store readiness, anticipate guest needs, and assist to ensure satisfaction.
- DipSide Guest Services: Prepare shakes, malts, cups/cones of ice cream, sundaes, floats, sodas, and "hand-packed" containers.
- Point-of-Sale (POS) System: Authorize and control gas sales, accurately register transactions, handle coins/currency/credit cards/coupons/EBT, and make change.
- Stocking Merchandise: Keep shelves, displays, coolers, and freezers filled and faced; ensure proper stock rotation and check for out-of-code dates.
- Security: Monitor guests to minimize shoplifting and gas drive-offs, control cash levels using proper "drop" procedures, and follow Tobacco/Alcohol Management and Robbery/Violence Deterrence programs.
- Maintenance: Ensure the store and parking lot are safe, clean, and organized; clean store equipment and monitor product/refrigeration temperatures. Clean bean-to-cup coffee machines according to maintenance standards.
- Reporting: Accurately complete time records and the Guest Preparedness Document.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Ability to speak, hear, and understand spoken English well enough to communicate effectively with customers.
- Ability to become Food Safety certified, subject to UDF and state food safety regulations.
- Ability to see well enough to operate store equipment (POS terminal, gas console), check identification documents, and use a price book.
- Ability to understand operating instructions for store equipment and operate all store equipment.
- Ability to prepare DipSide items using supplies in the dip cabinets.
- Ability to handle coins, currency, checks, credit transactions, coupons, and EBT; recognize denominations and make change accurately.
- Ability to recognize numbers, count, and perform arithmetic to complete required records.
- Ability to move merchandise from storage to shelves, displays, freezers, and milk boxes for proper display.
- Ability to clean counters and other surfaces.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as -30°F for at least 2 minutes and +33°F for at least 10 minutes.
- Ability to lift at least 10 pounds from floor level to a height of 5 feet.
- Ability to place an 8” x 10” x 10” package weighing 21 pounds into a dip cabinet (top at 3 feet above the floor).
