Retail Equipment Services Technician

The Equipment Services Tech is responsible for building, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing all product purchased and serviced through the service department for specialized equipment. In addition to core shop responsibilities, the technician is expected to be fully trained in sales and register functionality to deliver the elevated experience athletes expect when visiting our House of Sport location.
Responsibilities
- Assembles, maintains, and repairs action sports equipment to meet athlete needs and company/vendor standards.
- Performs everyday services for:
- Bike: minor to advanced repairs, including repairing/replacing parts, fitting accessories (lights, pannier racks, or cycle computers), routine safety checks, cleaning, degreasing, and lubricating bicycles and components.
- Snow Equipment: base cleaning, sharpening, waxing, brushing, polishing, preparation, and detuning tips/tails.
- Diagnoses faults, damage, and wear to provide accurate repair estimates and educates athletes on whether repairs are essential or recommended.
- Assembles new equipment and partners with leads to perform quality checks before handing off to the athlete.
- Understands athlete behavior, assesses needs, and recommends products/services to meet those needs.
- Supports company standards of selling and customer service by providing a friendly environment, greeting and acknowledging every athlete, and maintaining solid product knowledge.
- Assists and recommends accessories to athletes as needed.
- Identifies and informs management of ways to improve shop workflow, increasing productivity while maintaining or improving service quality.
- Preserves complete and accurate shop records and maintains record-keeping systems.
- Performs all other tasks assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Excellent bicycle assembly skills.
- Ability to adjust to priorities and manage time wisely.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Effective communication skills.
Pay
Targeted pay range: $14.00 - $21.00 per hour. Starting rate may vary based on factors including location, experience, and position offered. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location.
