About the Role
The Retail Sales Associate assists customers with purchases, merchandising, cash handling, and maintaining high levels of customer service.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers, answer questions, and provide information on products, promotions, and policies.
- Describe merchandise and explain its use, operation, and care.
- Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on customer needs.
- Compute sales prices, total purchases, and process cash or credit payments.
- Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change accurately.
- Maintain cash register, stock sales area, and ensure cleanliness of the retail operation.
- Turn in cash drawer and sales reconciliation at the end of shifts.
- Assist with special events and maintain awareness of safety issues.
Requirements
- Partial high school education; high school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
- Mathematical skills and ability to pass cash handling training.
- Interest and knowledge in Washington, DC's landmarks, monuments, and memorials preferred.
- Excellent sanitation habits and professional appearance.
- Strong communication skills to provide high-standard service to guests.
- Problem sensitivity and ability to recognize and report issues to management.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Frequent movement on foot, bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching within a constantly changing environment.
- Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 10 lbs. regularly, 10-15 lbs. frequently, and up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to withstand temperature extremes in indoor/outdoor environments.
- Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
- Clear speech recognition and communication in English with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to stand for the entire workday in a fast-paced environment.
Skills
- Knowledge of cash register/computer systems used in the unit.
