About the Role

This position is responsible for providing high-quality customer service across a broad variety of activities, including both Teller and Customer Service functions as needed. You will present Amalgamated Bank’s full array of products to existing and potential customers at the branch and off-site events, supporting branch management in achieving performance metrics.

Responsibilities

Customer Service Duties

  • Open and maintain a variety of accounts in accordance with Bank policy and procedure, including compliance with CIP and customer service policies.
  • Proactively present and cross-sell Bank products by asking probing questions and offering appropriate solutions based on customer responses.
  • Perform all functions related to opening and maintaining new and existing accounts.
  • Actively promote the Bank and its products, including setting up informational tables outside the branch when necessary.
  • Participate in off-site sales calls, branch networking, community, and CRA activities.
  • Resolve customer complaints regarding sales, services, or account issues, responding professionally in person or over the phone, including preparing written correspondence as needed.
  • Maintain follow-up correspondence with customers and back-office teams to ensure resolution.
  • Greet customers professionally to create a welcoming environment, adhering to Bank policies.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Bank products and services, matching them to individual customer needs.
  • Review and verify all previous days’ work for accuracy, resolving discrepancies, including general ledger accounts.
  • Approve checks (up to authorized limit) using account history and information on file.
  • Perform various administrative duties as directed by the Branch Manager.

Teller Line Responsibilities

  • Perform all Retail Banking Representative (RBR) duties, such as processing stop payment orders, accepting payments for safe deposit box rentals, handling deposits/withdrawals, and cashing checks.
  • Assist other RBRs in balancing daily transactions, verifying tickets, and balancing the teller area.
  • Support RBRs with complex tasks, such as check cashing.
  • Research and investigate customer claims in the archive area related to missing deposits, checks, or ATM envelopes to resolve issues promptly.
  • Perform assigned RBR functions, review and verify previous days’ work for accuracy, and resolve discrepancies, including general ledger accounts.
  • Approve checks (up to authorized limit) using account history and information on file.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist Officers with various branch functions and reports as requested.
  • Provide priority services to customers requiring special handling.
  • Perform related clerical duties as directed.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Bank’s Redi system to stay current with policy and procedure updates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Teller experience required, or successful completion of the teller training course in lieu of experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with prospective and existing customers.
  • Flexibility to work or transfer throughout the network as needed.
  • Detailed knowledge of banking procedures, regulations, and branch-related functions and terminal systems.

Pay

The starting hourly salary for this role is between $22.00 and $28.00 per hour. Actual pay depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Schedule

Effective February 18, 2025, employees in office-based positions will follow a hybrid work schedule consisting of three or more on-site days per week (Monday–Thursday), with Friday designated as a remote-working day unless business-critical tasks require on-site presence. This model does not apply to contact center, branch service roles, general services, positions covered by collective-bargaining agreements (unless specified otherwise), or roles where in-person attendance is required. Remote-designated roles are exempt from this guidance.
