Retail Associate

About the role

The Retail Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, treating both customers and colleagues with respect, and performing a variety of tasks across different areas of the store.

Responsibilities

• Understands safety is paramount and practices safe behaviors.
• Maintains a safe and secure shopping environment by being aware of the sales floor and reporting any unsafe conditions.
• Treats all customers and associates with respect and courtesy, recognizing fellow associates through company recognition programs.
• Assists customers in any way necessary, including register training, merchandise assistance, and answering customer questions politely and knowledgeably.
• Greets customers by making eye contact, smiling, and saying "hello" throughout the store, and "thank you" with every register transaction.
• Responds promptly and efficiently to customer service calls and handles issues courteously, escalating to leadership when necessary.
• Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
• Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high-touch areas.
• Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the company’s dress code.
• Manages daily assigned sizing and recovery tasks to keep the store neat and organized.
• Expedites new merchandise receipts to the sales floor, merchandising items according to company best practices, and maintaining departmental familiarity.
• Understands and follows loss prevention protocols, including identifying and processing shortfalls, and reporting to leadership.
• Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions with colleagues and customers, safeguarding confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
• Fulfills Mark-Out-of-Stock policies, identifies and processes shortfalls, and notifies leadership for approval.
• Handles cash, checks, charge cards, and refunds accurately, following all policies and procedures.
• Executes all store best practices to maximize productivity and minimize steps and touches in workflow.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

• Effectively communicates with customers, colleagues, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.

Physical Requirements/ADA

• Ability to use all store equipment, including point of sale terminals, registers, and PCs as required.
• Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
• Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
• Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
• Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
