About the role
The Retail Associate plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive shopping experience for customers. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment, treating both customers and colleagues with respect, and performing a variety of tasks across different areas of the store.
Responsibilities
- Understands safety as the top priority and practices safe behaviors.
- Maintains a safe and secure shopping environment by being aware of the sales floor and reporting any unsafe conditions.
- Treats all customers and associates with respect and courtesy, and uses company recognition programs to recognize fellow associates.
- Assists customers by greeting them, making eye contact, smiling, and saying "hello," assisting with merchandise, and answering questions politely and knowledgeably.
- Responds promptly and efficiently to customer service calls, addressing issues courteously and helping when necessary.
- Represents the company brand and adheres to its policies and procedures.
- Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high-touch areas.
- Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the company's dress code.
- Performs daily sizing and recovery tasks to keep the store neat, clean, and efficiently merchandised.
- Expedites new merchandise receipts to the sales floor, merchandising items according to company best practices, and maintaining familiarity with departmental merchandise.
- Understands and follows loss prevention policies, including identifying and processing lost or stolen merchandise.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions with colleagues and customers, safeguarding confidential information and merchandise.
- Follows policies and procedures regarding cash, check, charge card, and refund transactions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Works with urgency to maximize productivity and minimize steps and touches in their workflow.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- Effective communication with customers, colleagues, and store leadership.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements/ADA
- Ability to use all store equipment, including point of sale terminals, registers, and PCs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Ability to occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.
