Retail Associate
About the role
The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. They greet customers, assist with merchandise, answer questions, and perform various cleaning tasks.
Responsibilities
- Understands safety is the top priority and practices safe behaviors.
- Maintains a safe and secure shopping environment by being aware of the sales floor and reporting unsafe conditions.
- Treats customers and associates with respect and courtesy, and recognizes fellow associates using Company recognition programs.
- Assists customers with merchandise, answers questions politely, and greets customers by making eye contact and saying "hello."
- Responds promptly and efficiently to customer service calls and handles issues courteously, escalating to leadership when necessary.
- Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
- Performs cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high-touch areas.
- Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to the company's dress code.
- Performs daily assigned sizing and recovery tasks to ensure a neat, clean, and organized store.
- Expedites new merchandise receipts to the sales floor, merchandising items according to company best practices, and maintaining merchandise familiarity within departments.
- Understands and follows loss prevention awareness, shortage highway, and store protection specialist (where applicable) policies.
- Demonstrates integrity and honesty in all interactions with associates and customers, safeguarding confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
- Fulfills Mark-Out-of-Stock (MOS) policies, identifying and processing each piece of merchandise, and notifying leadership for approval.
- Handles cash, checks, charge cards, and refunds accurately, following all policies and procedures.
- Manages work processes effectively, prioritizes tasks, and executes all store best practices to maximize productivity.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
- Effectively communicates with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner.
- Able to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
Physical Requirements/ADA
- Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs as required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies.

The base pay range for this role is $17.13 - $17.63. The base pay range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.

AS, ASM, and SM associates in stores and exempt corporate and buying office roles are also eligible to receive a bonus based on individual and business performance.
