Restorative Justice Coord

About the role

The Restorative Justice Coordinator works directly with students, staff, administrators, families, and school stakeholders to facilitate restorative practices, build schoolwide systems and capacity for restorative justice, and advance its reach in the CPS community. This role is grounded in the belief that fostering connection, addressing needs, and building skills creates a healthier and safer community than punitive measures.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate restorative practices across universal, targeted, and intensive tiers of support with all school community stakeholders.
• Facilitate Tier 1 proactive restorative practices (e.g., check-ins, shared values, community building, restorative conversations, classroom talking circles, and restorative communication).
• Facilitate and connect students, families, staff, and administrators to Tier 2 and 3 responsive restorative practices (e.g., restorative conversations, peace circles, Peer Conference, re-entry processes, crisis/trauma response, and support).
• Set up and maintain physical spaces for restorative practices (e.g., a school Peace Room or classroom-based spaces).
• Design and lead training for staff and administrators on restorative justice (e.g., intro to restorative justice, restorative communication, talking circles, peace circles).
• Develop a scope & sequence tailored to the school’s restorative justice needs and goals.
• Model and co-facilitate restorative practices in classrooms and staff meetings to build staff capacity, including a restorative discipline protocol for school-wide expectations.
• Provide individual and team coaching for administrators and staff to develop restorative justice skills, including observation and constructive feedback.
• Consult with school staff on restorative prevention, de-escalation, and intervention strategies for student social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
• Collaborate with stakeholders (parents, community members) through outreach, focus groups, and shared leadership.
• Develop students’ restorative justice skills via Peer Conference, workshops, and leadership opportunities (e.g., student-led community events).
• Participate in the Chicago and CPS restorative justice community, including communities of practice and coaching.
• Connect the school to local restorative justice-related community partners, resources, tools, and professional development.
• Attend professional development training in restorative justice, cultural competency, anti-racism, trauma responsiveness, and circle practice.
• Develop data-informed strategic goals for schoolwide restorative practices within the school’s Continuous Improvement Work Plan.
• Collect and analyze schoolwide data on restorative practices to identify growth areas and inform training/coaching.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Public Administration, Education, or Human Services preferred).
• Previous experience in a school setting or working with adolescents.
• Two years of training and/or experience in restorative justice and circle practice.
• Four years of direct experience implementing conflict mediation (e.g., de-escalation, facilitating harm-repair conversations) and positive youth development in a school or community setting.
• Four years of experience building relationships and collaborations with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and/or community partners.
• Ability to work after-school and weekend hours.
• Ability to interface with diverse stakeholders to find creative solutions to challenging problems.

Pay

Salary range: $63,287.72 to $95,360.75.

Schedule

Ability to work after-school and weekend hours as needed.
