About the Role

To greet and seat guests in the outlet using all the techniques and steps outlined in the service standards of Horseshoe Bay Resort. Ensure that each guest is greeted with warm, friendly enthusiasm and seated promptly. Supervise and control seating in the outlet to ensure that guests are seated in a manner that fairly accommodates all servers and ensures that guests receive the fastest and most courteous service at all times. May also assist kitchen operations as a food runner and expeditor to ensure all orders are served in a timely manner and according to menu and customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain guest flow charts to track the number of guests to each station and volume per hour.
  • Ensure the entrance to the outlet has someone there to greet guests at all times; verify that each guest is a Member or Guest with proper credentials to patronize the outlet, such as a Membership card.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the outlet at all times.
  • Check every table and chair setting to ensure it is clean, spotless, and fully set up, with all silverware and glassware pristine before seating guests.
  • Check on guests to gather feedback on meal and service quality, address any problems immediately, and inform the supervisor or manager as needed.
  • Schedule servers for breaks in conjunction with the supervisor and based on business volumes.
  • Assist in service as needed, including food runner and expeditor tasks to ensure the kitchen prepares dishes according to ticket specifications and relays orders from wait staff to the kitchen.
  • Possess excellent knowledge about the resort, surrounding communities, and transportation methods to converse with customers, provide helpful suggestions, and answer questions.
  • Have thorough knowledge of wines and menu items to assist guests, answer questions, and offer suggestions.
  • Be knowledgeable about the hotel, services offered, and operating hours of all food and beverage outlets.
  • Check out servers at the end of their shifts to ensure:
    • All tables and chairs are completely set up, including salt, pepper, and sugar.
    • All assigned side work is completed.
    • All floors are clean and neatly swept.
    • All check issues are recounted, closed at the register, or returned.
    • All associates are wearing proper name tags, shoes, clean and proper uniforms, and meet appearance standards.
  • Communicate all necessary information to incoming host/hostess and supervisor, and log all messages in the host/hostess communication log.
  • Conduct menu classes and taste panels in conjunction with the supervisor/manager and the kitchen.
  • Report to work in proper uniform and in accordance with grooming standards required of all Horseshoe Bay Resort associates.
  • Follow all departmental rules and regulations, such as calling in, red sticker policy, and requesting time off.
  • Comply with Horseshoe Bay Resort’s "clean as you go" policy.
  • Always check with your supervisor before leaving your work area.
  • Follow the host/hostess opening and closing checklist thoroughly.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a food service environment; host/hostess experience preferred.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Pleasant demeanor with a teamwork attitude; ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English; knowledge of other languages is valuable.
  • Ability to listen and follow directions.
  • Impeccable standards of appearance and grooming.
  • Maintain proper associate uniform standards and footwear (slip-resistant, enclosed toe and heel).
  • Good physical health and ability to perform work quickly.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative to serve guests.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Honest and dependable.
  • Ability to meet guests’ satisfaction within company guidelines.

Required Certifications

  • Minimum age requirement: 16+
  • Food Handler’s Certificate
  • TABC Certificate & Tips Trained required if 18+ (to serve alcohol)
  • OSHA Hazard Communication Standard training and certification encouraged

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Must have the physical strength, stamina, and agility to perform assigned duties.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Report work-related accidents, injuries, or unsafe work conditions to a manager or supervisor immediately.
  • Requires problem-solving abilities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and environmentally responsible work environment.
  • Must be able to interact with co-workers and have a sense of teamwork.
