About the role

The role of a Specialized Respite Nurse is to offer one‑on‑one time between a child and a licensed nurse within the family’s home or community. Respite care is designed to give families a break from the day‑to‑day care involved in raising a child with special healthcare needs. ChildServe’s respite service allows parents to attend events for their other children, schedule appointments for themselves, or simply take time to recharge.

Responsibilities

• Provide one‑on‑one nursing support in the home or community
• Interact with the child and participate in fun activities
• Complete electronic documentation and paper MAR
• Possible skills used: medication administration, g‑tube nutrition, seizure management, trach cares, etc.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Current valid RN/LPN license in Iowa
• Documentation of CPR/BLS certification
• Valid driver’s license/insurance for three consecutive years without suspension
• Experience working with children with special health care needs preferred
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand
• Ability to communicate effectively in (or through) reading, writing and speaking the English language
• May be subject to COVID‑19 safety requirements; specifics will be discussed during the interview process

Schedule

1:1 respite is primarily offered in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends and can be regularly scheduled or as needed. Group respite is available Friday‑Sunday with typical 10‑12‑hour shifts, with high need for Saturday 12‑hour shifts.
