Respite Caregiver for Adult with Autism

We are seeking two dependable and patient caregivers to provide in-home respite care for our adult son, Kirin, in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Assignments will generally be long weekends occurring once every two months, from Thursday afternoon through Monday evening, with occasional daytime hours and potential week-long needs. Caregivers will work as part of a team, providing 12-hour shifts, though shifts may be shortened if additional caregivers are available. Kirin is an autistic adult who is mostly nonverbal. Caregivers will help prepare meals, assist with bathroom needs, maintain routine, ensure electronics are charged, and remain alert and responsive throughout the shift. Strong de-escalation skills and attention to detail are essential. Experience with autism and respite care is preferred. Applicants must be comfortable around cats, work in a monitored environment, and be either enrolled with an NC Innovations Waiver agency or willing to complete agency onboarding and training. Compensation includes agency pay, plus private cash supplements for a total of $26/hour during the day and evening, and $31/hour overnight. Reliability is crucial, and applicants must be committed to scheduled shifts, as last-minute cancellations could impact travel plans. Interested candidates should have prior caregiving experience, knowledge of de-escalation techniques, and be able to provide consistent support approximately every two months.
