About the role

Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. This position requires the ability to teach, counsel, supervise, evaluate, and maintain records of students in the clinical portion of the Respiratory Therapy Program. Must have an excellent understanding of respiratory anatomy and physiology, pathology, and clinical procedures. Must function as a role model in the clinical setting demonstrating a high degree of professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, counsel, supervise, evaluate, and maintain records of students in the clinical portion of the Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Show mastery of subject matter, including interpreting and evaluating respiratory therapy theories, connecting the subject matter with related fields, staying current through professional development, and using technology to enhance teaching.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning, employ appropriate teaching strategies, modify methods to meet diverse student needs, and incorporate core competencies into curriculum.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently, maintain accurate records, demonstrate sensitivity to student needs, participate in inter-rater reliability training, maintain confidentiality, substitute for other instructors, exercise stewardship of college facilities, and record attendance data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Experience in clinical practice.
  • National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current unencumbered license from the Virginia State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • A membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) certification for Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • An Associate Degree (or higher) in Respiratory Therapy from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CO”ARC) accredited program.

  • Excellent understanding of respiratory anatomy and physiology, pathology, and clinical procedures.

  • Ability to teach, counsel, supervise, and evaluate students effectively.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and confidentiality of student information.

Pay

$21.17 per hour, part time.

Schedule

Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Up to 29 hours per week, to be scheduled.
