0.7 FTE, Friday/Saturday/Sunday Nights 7:00PM to 7:30AM – works 5 weekends in a row and then 1 weekend off.

About the role

Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Respiratory patient care. Delivers Respiratory patient care in cooperation with other health care team members, according to the patient care delivery model of each unit. Serves infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Conducts all aspects of the job ethically in support of the hospital’s commitment to ethical behavior
  • Utilizes assessment skills to provide respiratory care procedures for optimal patient benefit
  • Assists nursing with plan of care development and integrates a multidisciplinary approach
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities to other department associates with follow-up and collaboration
  • Implements Respiratory Care procedures according to departmental standards, hospital protocol, and scope of practice
  • Continually evaluates outcomes of Respiratory care by assessing patient/family responses and updating care as needs change
  • Successfully completes hospital and department orientation and annual competencies

Patient Education

  • Assesses and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to patient and family age, culture, gender, readiness to learn, and comprehension level
  • Focuses education on health and preventative health maintenance
  • Integrates patient/family teaching throughout hospitalization as opportunities arise
  • Provides therapeutic equipment teaching
  • Consults appropriate hospital resources to provide specialized education
  • Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents, and infections

Leadership and Professional Development

  • Assists in the orientation of new associates by acting as a resource and mentor
  • Collaborates with unit leadership as appropriate
  • Serves in a preceptor role as appropriate
  • Participates in the education of students and/or RT interns
  • Continues professional development and involvement in activities that enhance respiratory practice
  • Utilizes evidence-based models of learning
  • Participates in department and hospital shared governance, infrastructure, and performance improvement activities
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development

Requirements

Education

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program required
  • Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory Care program required

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State(s) of practice required
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
  • Mandatory Reporter certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred within 180 days of hire
