Respiratory Therapist (RT) - New Graduate

About the Role

This role focuses on helping patients recover from injuries, illnesses, or surgeries and improve their physical, emotional, and functional well-being. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, and providing therapeutic interventions to enhance patients' abilities to perform daily activities and achieve their rehabilitation goals. Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders by providing oxygen therapy, managing ventilators, conducting breathing exercises, and monitoring lung function to ensure optimal respiratory care.

As an individual contributor in a clinical discipline, this position involves diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients through face-to-face interactions. Some time may also be spent designing and implementing clinical programs, policies, and services using specialized knowledge and skills. A specialty license or certification, acquired through advanced education, training, and/or experience, is required.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, and provide therapeutic interventions to enhance patients' physical, emotional, and functional well-being.
• Evaluate and treat patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders.
• Provide oxygen therapy and manage ventilators.
• Conduct breathing exercises and monitor lung function.
• Design and implement clinical programs, policies, and services.
• Communicate information that requires little explanation or interpretation.

Requirements

• Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRC) preferred.
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within 6 months of hire.
• Licensed to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.

Physical Demands

• Standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking and bending/stooping.
• Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50 lbs.
• May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
