Respiratory Therapist (RT)

About the Role

The Respiratory Therapist performs respiratory care procedures under medical supervision, assessing residents, administering therapies, managing life support systems, and monitoring patient responses. They provide airway care, operate and troubleshoot ventilators, and participate in emergency resuscitation efforts.

Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory assessments and develop care plans based on physician orders.
• Administer, monitor, and document therapies, medications, and equipment use.
• Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory devices, ensuring safety and efficacy.
• Participate in emergency procedures and interdisciplinary rounds.
• Educate residents and families on respiratory treatments.
• Complete accurate documentation and manage supplies.
• Adhere to departmental policies and participate in quality assurance.
• Evaluate cardiopulmonary status and deliver treatments such as nebulizers and suctioning.

Qualifications & Skills

• Completion of an NBRC-accredited respiratory therapy program with clinical experience.
• Current state licensure and BCLS certification.
• Strong knowledge of respiratory care practices and emergency procedures.
• Ability to assess, plan, and execute respiratory therapies effectively.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
