Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory care procedures under general supervision and medical direction, exercising considerable judgment in accordance with physician's treatment plan and departmental policies.
  • Assess resident's condition, administer prescribed therapy and aerosolized medications, observe and record progress and response to therapy, including adverse reactions.
  • Provide in-service training to residents, family members, and facility staff.
  • Involve appropriate parties (e.g., resident's family or facility staff) in assessment, treatment, and continuing care.
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support systems, including airway care and mechanical ventilators.
  • Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures, including bag ventilation and closed chest massage.
  • Initiate, monitor, and document performance of various respiratory care modalities.
  • Assess residents' cardiopulmonary status using physical assessment, history taking, laboratory findings, and radiological studies to formulate a respiratory care plan.
  • Perform pre-treatment tasks: check physician's orders, review resident's chart, observe and chart vital signs and general appearance.
  • Administer proper technical respiratory care procedures, including adjusting devices for optimal results and resident comfort.
  • Inspect, test, clean, and maintain equipment; ensure adequate supply of necessary equipment.
  • Assist in emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation as part of the emergency team.
  • Initiate, administer, evaluate, and document therapy modalities such as intermittent positive pressure breathing, nebulizers, chest physical therapy, and incentive spirometry.
  • Recognize and respond to adverse reactions to therapy modalities.
  • Document all resident care services rendered as part of a medical record.
  • Accept and transcribe verbal orders related to respiratory care procedures.
  • Set up, maintain, and record log entries for oxygen and respiratory supplies and equipment.
  • Instruct residents and family members in the rationale and methodology of respiratory procedures.
  • Attend internal and external educational programs to maintain and enhance technical skills and clinical competencies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary resident rounds and conferences to plan and evaluate effective resident care.
  • Participate in quality assurance program data collection as assigned.
  • Ensure effective and efficient delivery of rehab services, adherence to plan of care, and timely documentation.
  • Perform equipment troubleshooting, quality control, preventive maintenance, and calibration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a NBRC-approved and accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • One year of clinical practice experience under medical direction.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current State Licensure for a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

Pay

USD $36.00 - USD $39.00 per hour.
