About the role

As a Respiratory Therapist RRT PRN with HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with department requirements and the scope and standards of practice for the state and specialty. You will perform diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, monitor patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and respond to emergent patient situations to ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
  • Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways.
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patient for therapeutic response and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
  • Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy (RRT).
  • NBRC and State Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date).
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date).
