Respiratory Therapist - RRT
About the role
This position involves operating and administering various respiratory therapy equipment and procedures. It also includes responding to emergency code situations and providing CPR.
Responsibilities
- Operates mechanical ventilation equipment and administers oxygen therapy to patients.
- Administers respiratory therapy treatments such as intermittent positive pressure breathing, ultrasonic, postural drainage, and spontaneous aerosol.
- Performs pulmonary function tests and instructs patients in breathing techniques.
- Draws and analyzes arterial blood gas samples.
- Responds to code calls and administers CPR to patients.
- Maintains and cleans respiratory equipment, and prepares emergency oxygen set-ups.
- Assists anesthesiologists with changing tracheostomy tubes.
- Maintains and stocks respiratory equipment and medications.
Requirements
Licensed registered respiratory therapist by the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care. Must obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Qualifications
Requires good interpersonal communication skills, multi-tasking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Physical requirements include ability to be on feet/walking for extended periods, lifting/pushing 40 pounds.
Skills
Knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served (Neonatal 0-11 months, Pediatric 1-12 years, Adolescence 13-17 years, Adult 18-79 years, Geriatric 80+ years).
