Respiratory Therapist Registered

Position Summary

Provides respiratory care services to patients requiring emergency, intensive, therapeutic, invasive, and non-invasive monitoring, diagnostic testing, and patient education for pulmonary and cardiopulmonary disorders.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Interviews, examines, and assesses patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders.
• Consults with physicians to develop patient treatment plans.
• Creates therapy programs for patients based on physician instructions and assessment findings.
• Performs diagnostic tests such as measuring lung capacity, taking blood samples, and using a blood gas analyzer to test oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
• Treats patients using various methods, including chest physiotherapy, aerosol medications, and non-invasive methods like CPAP and BIPAP therapies.
• Maintains equipment and participates in quality assurance and improvement activities.
• Treats patients who cannot breathe on their own to ventilators.
• Makes progress notes and instructs patients on treatment methods.
• Trains respiratory therapy interns during clinical rotations.
• Operates and maintains respiratory equipment.
• Assists in the review and evaluation of equipment and supplies.
• Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, and forms in paper and electronic formats.
• Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a Respiratory Therapist Educational Program accredited by CAAHEP.
• Current state licensure as a respiratory therapist.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the NBRC.
• BLS certification.

• Sedentary Work: Lifting 10 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools.
• Light Work: Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
