Respiratory Therapist PRN

Responsibilities

• Works under the supervision of Respiratory Therapy Manager/Lead Respiratory Therapist and Physician
• Operates various respiratory care equipment for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases
• Care for adult or geriatric patients, ages 18 and over
• Assists in preparing patients for physical therapy, ambulation, transport, etc.
• Stores oxygen tanks according to OSHA and hospital guidelines
• Attends at least 9 staff meetings per year
• Completes required competencies assigned upon hire and yearly
• Administers prescribed treatments using handheld nebulizers, nasal oxygen devices, and chest physical therapy treatments
• Records all pertinent information of treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records and patient charts
• Performs trach care, changing tubing and inline suction devices as per hospital policy and procedure
• Performs iSTAT instrument testing as outlined in technical procedures
• Reports treatments to be conducted and patient conditions to relief personnel
• Keeps patient’s primary care nurse informed of any changes made and new orders written
• Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment, including pre-use checks on ventilators

Qualifications

• State Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure required
• Respects patient rights, dignity, and individuality in all interactions
• Regularly rounds on patients, fills room humidifiers, changes suction canisters daily, and checks other respiratory therapy equipment as per hospital policy
• Ensures participation in facility meetings by attending at least 9 staff meetings per year
• Completes required competencies assigned upon hire and yearly
