Respiratory Therapist II - Non-NICU

About the Role

The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, medication administration, and patient assessment, primarily in critical care settings. They perform procedures such as ventilator management, airway management (intubation, extubation, trach care), arterial blood gas sampling, and pulmonary diagnostics. The role includes patient and family education, staff development, and participation in quality improvement initiatives to ensure safe, evidence-based, and high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Delivering patient-centered respiratory therapies and assessments
• Collaborating with healthcare team members for comprehensive care planning
• Managing ventilator settings, weaning, and airway procedures
• Educating patients, families, and mentoring staff and students
• Ensuring safety and quality through accurate documentation, adherence to protocols, and participation in performance improvement

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred)
• Required certifications: NBRC-RRT, Respiratory Care Professional, BLS, ACLS
• 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care
