About the role

The Respiratory Therapist position at JPS Health Network is a full-time night shift role located at John Peter Smith Hospital. This position is part of the Clinical/Professional Services - Respiratory division.

Responsibilities

  • Administers routine respiratory therapy procedures per physician orders.
  • Maintains artificial airways, assists with intubation, tracheostomy change and decannulation.
  • Performs arterial puncture and analysis.
  • Absists with cleaning, sterilization and reassembly of equipment.
  • Initiates, monitors and maintains continuous mechanical ventilation per physician orders.
  • Performs cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and other emergency respiratory therapy procedures as necessary.
  • Documents respiratory therapy procedures per policy in the patient medical record.
  • Provides instruction to patients on the respiratory therapy modalities ordered by their physician.
  • Evaluates patient’s clinical conditions and provides suggestions and recommendations for therapeutic procedures to meet patient treatment process.
  • Assists with chart audits and quality improvement reviews.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) with a minimum of an associate degree.
  • OR In lieu of an associate degree: Six (6) plus years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensure by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Current JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications
