GENERAL SUMMARY
The Respiratory Therapist under the supervision of the Director of Respiratory Therapy is responsible for all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care, including ventilator management, noninvasive ventilation, oxygen administration, tracheostomy tube changes, and tracheostomy care.
Responsibilities
- Reads orders from physicians for patient treatment, determining the most suitable methods for administration and monitoring patients.
- Ventilator Management: Sets up ventilator parameters, performs inline and standard suctioning, and implements weaning protocols.
- Tracheotomy Tube Care: Changes and cleans inner cannulas, tracheostomy dressings, and ties.
- Oxygen Administration: Sets up and administers various modes of oxygen, performs daily oxygen rounds, and verifies appliance function.
- Assessment and Reassessment: Performs respiratory assessments and reassessments, making recommendations to physicians.
- Other Duties: Assists with Bronchoscopy equipment, draws arterial blood gas samples, induces sputum collections, performs spirometry, and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associates or Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
- Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist license.
- Valid PA Drivers License.
- Proficiency in respiratory care techniques and equipment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer and arithmetic skills.
Qualifications
- No previous work experience required.
- Ability to work independently and follow procedures.
- Physical demands: Light work, occasional exposure to blood and body substances.
- Accident or health hazards: Needle sticks possible.
