Respiratory Therapist

About the role

Deliver critical and non-critical patient care services to all age groups using selected invasive and noninvasive techniques related to the cardiopulmonary system. Provide respiratory care in in-patient and out-patient areas, demonstrating a high level of commitment and professionalism. Practice within the scope of practice in accordance with the licensure act.

Responsibilities

• Perform and monitor patient progress and response to service.
• Assess patients and make appropriate recommendations based on outcomes with regard to therapeutic interventions.
• In accordance with hospital policy and procedure, perform all duties as a respiratory care practitioner as assigned.
• Perform invasive and noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Correctly record all information in the patient legal record and maintain department records.
• Educate patients on their disease state, wellness, home care modalities, and safety.
• Treatments performed as related to age-specific needs.
• Educate/Precept students and new orientees to the roles/responsibilities of a respiratory care practitioner.
• Apply technical knowledge to consult physicians with regard to cardiopulmonary status.
• Participate in in-services and meetings, complete competencies.
• Monitor all department communications.
• May be responsible for charge/team leader roles and other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Credentials of RRT issued by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
• Must demonstrate critical care knowledge as it relates to cardiopulmonary disease states.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience.
• Active membership in the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).
• 2 years of experience preferred.
• NICU experience preferred.
