About the role
Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team. This position offers a broad, varied scope of practice in a clinically engaging environment with a more balanced work pace.
Responsibilities
- Provide and monitor therapeutic treatment administration: Medical gases, aerosols, humidification, and pharmacological agents related to respiratory care procedures, but not including administration of general anesthesia;
- Apply and monitor mechanical ventilatory support;
- Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintain natural airways and insert/remove artificial airways;
- Assess and monitor signs, symptoms, and general behavior relating to, and general physical response to, respiratory care treatment or evaluation for treatment and diagnostic testing;
- Assess and suggest modifications in the treatment regimen based on abnormalities, protocols, or changes in patient response to respiratory care treatment;
- Obtain physiological specimens and interpret physiological data including: Analyze arterial and venous blood gases; Assess respiratory secretions; Measure ventilatory volumes, pressures, and flows;
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic testing of breathing patterns related to sleep disorders;
- Instruct patients and their families in techniques for the prevention, alleviation, and rehabilitation of deficiencies, abnormalities, and diseases of the cardiopulmonary system;
- Utilize protocols, guidelines, pathways, and policies driven by evidence-based medicine, expert opinion, and standards of practice;
- Transcribe and implement verbal, written, or telecommunicated orders from a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant for respiratory care services;
- Develop discharge plans, manage cases, and utilize durable medical equipment (DME) services as needed;
- Educate staff on proper use of respiratory equipment, processes, and outcomes as well as procedures within the scope of practice identified at Northfield Hospital + Clinics, such as ABG lab draws;
- Restock and clean equipment;
- Support staff in all departments and clinics if needed;
- Participate in public education activities focused on cardiopulmonary wellness and prevention.
Requirements
- Current RRT license with The National Board of Respiratory Care, in good standing;
- Current Respiratory Therapist license with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, in good standing;
- Current BLS must be enrolled in Northfield Hospital + Clinics RQI program and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment;
- Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter) for ACLS and PALS;
- Current NRP certification (if not current, will need to obtain in the first 6 months);
- Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months;
- Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.
Qualifications
- Three years critical care experience preferred;
- Reliable, mature skills in judgment, organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making;
- Professional appearance and demeanor;
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
- English proficiency.
Skills
- Proficiency in respiratory equipment and processes;
- Ability to assess and modify treatment regimens based on patient responses;
- Knowledge of evidence-based medicine and standards of practice;
- Strong organizational and time management skills;

Schedule
Block Schedule: 8:00am – 8:00pm Every third weekend, rotating holidays.
