Respiratory Therapist
Job Summary
Conduct thorough assessments of residents’ respiratory status, including reviewing medical history and performing physical examinations. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on residents’ needs and established protocols. Administer respiratory therapies including Acapella, Incentive Spirometry (IS), EZPAP, and Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) to promote optimal lung function and prevent complications. Monitor residents’ responses to treatment and adjust care plans as necessary, in collaboration with the medical staff. Educate residents and their families about respiratory health, treatment options, and best practices for managing respiratory conditions. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of assessments, treatments, and progress notes in residents’ medical records. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss resident care and contribute to overall care strategies. Ensure the proper maintenance and cleanliness of respiratory equipment, adhering to infection control protocols. Stay current with best practices and advancements in respiratory therapy and participate in ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid state license to practice as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred.
- Previous experience in a long-term care or nursing home setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Able to work effectively as part of a healthcare team and independently.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation standards.
