Responsibilities

  • Administers respiratory therapy treatments to patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders.
  • Evaluates patients' respiratory conditions and develops appropriate treatment plans.
  • Operates and maintains respiratory therapy equipment, including ventilators and oxygen delivery systems.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures its proper functioning.
  • Makes rounds to monitor patients' responses to therapy and adjusts treatments as necessary.
  • Provides emergency respiratory care, including airway management and resuscitation.
  • Documents patient care activities and maintains accurate medical records.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of respiratory care protocols.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Performs diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
  • Provides education to patients and their families on respiratory conditions and proper use of equipment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology.
  • Expertise in patient advocacy and navigating complex systems.
  • Ability to function and assist others in stressful, fast-paced environments and effectively apply stress management techniques.
  • Ability to resolve issues and work independently within the scope of their certification.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, diplomacy and a professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing and typing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements.
  • Experience with computers.
  • Education: Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science.
  • Work experience: 1+ year of experience as a respiratory therapist (preferred).

Qualifications

  • State Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license.
  • NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification (preferred).
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) certification.
