Responsibilities
- Administers respiratory therapy treatments to patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders.
- Evaluates patients' respiratory conditions and develops appropriate treatment plans.
- Operates and maintains respiratory therapy equipment, including ventilators and oxygen delivery systems.
- Maintains equipment and ensures its proper functioning.
- Makes rounds to monitor patients' responses to therapy and adjusts treatments as necessary.
- Provides emergency respiratory care, including airway management and resuscitation.
- Documents patient care activities and maintains accurate medical records.
- Participates in the development and implementation of respiratory care protocols.
- Ensures compliance with safety and infection control standards.
- Performs diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests.
- Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Provides education to patients and their families on respiratory conditions and proper use of equipment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology.
- Expertise in patient advocacy and navigating complex systems.
- Ability to function and assist others in stressful, fast-paced environments and effectively apply stress management techniques.
- Ability to resolve issues and work independently within the scope of their certification.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement, diplomacy and a professional demeanor.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing and typing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements.
- Experience with computers.
- Education: Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science.
- Work experience: 1+ year of experience as a respiratory therapist (preferred).
Qualifications
- State Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license.
- NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification (preferred).
- Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) certification.
