About the role

The primary purpose of the respiratory equipment technician is equipment set-up, reprocessing and cleaning, and local supply management under the direction and supervision of the respiratory therapist. This position serves as an extra set of resources for the respiratory department to ensure that the therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory/pulmonary equipment are properly allocated and readily available throughout the hospital.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the general cleanliness and neatness of the RT supply areas throughout the hospital
  • Cleans and processes respiratory equipment intended for multi-patient use as guided by the current hospital infection control policies and standards
  • Assists the respiratory therapists with equipment and supply needs
  • Sets up ventilators in department and performs pre-operative checks
  • Sets up respiratory equipment for use such as HFNC, Bipaps, and other equipment as instructed
  • Reports defective or damaged equipment to HTM department
  • Others duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to be on feet/walking extended periods
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull 40 pounds
