About the Role

This PRN Respiratory Therapist position covers as-needed shifts at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison. The role requires a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide evaluation and care for respiratory therapy patients, administering prescribed respiratory therapeutic services.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop a plan of care based on diagnosis.
  • Provide respiratory care services in accordance with physician’s orders, department policies, and procedures.
  • Implement and monitor patient care plans and equipment; record and communicate patient conditions.
  • Perform advanced respiratory care modalities and evaluate practice, medication administration, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families about health conditions and provide information on community support groups and programs.
  • Assist with care, calibration, and maintenance of equipment; maintain departmental inventory levels for supplies and equipment.
  • Process equipment per established cleaning and sterilization procedures.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and rapid responses.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent years of experience and education.
  • No prior experience required.

Licenses and Certifications

All Locations: Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

  • Illinois: Respiratory Care Practitioner, Registered – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
  • Missouri: Respiratory Care Practitioner – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or Respiratory Educator Permit – Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
  • Oklahoma: Letter of Acknowledgement of Receipt of Application for Respiratory Care Practitioner – Oklahoma Medical Board or Provisional Respiratory Care Therapist – Oklahoma Medical Board or Respiratory Care Practitioner – Oklahoma Medical Board.
  • Wisconsin: Respiratory Care Practitioner – Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant: Use of speech, standing, walking, vision and depth perception, color identification, smell, and hearing.
  • Frequent: Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs, sitting, reaching, keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional: Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs, lifting/moving patients, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements, driving.
  • Rare: Crawling and running.
