Residential Helper - Solid Waste Industry – Lehigh Acres Area

About the Role

The Helper assists the refuse truck driver on pre-assigned and special routes to collect garbage, yard waste, or recycling.

Responsibilities

• Pick up solid waste and place it in the rear load garbage truck, often done manually or by pushing toters to the tipper.
• Lift and carry trash bags, bulk items, and containers to the truck for disposal.
• Climb onto and off the rear truck step to load refuse, waste, and carts.
• Operate the packing mechanism to compact waste into the truck.
• Provide courteous and efficient customer service to the public and customers during refuse operations.
• Ensure garbage and recyclables are picked up and transferred properly, including accessing back doors when required.
• Answer resident questions and direct them to Customer Service or appropriate government offices for further assistance.
• Comply with all ANSI, OSHA, and company safety policies, including Waste Pro Absolute Guidelines.
• Assist the Driver in safely backing up the truck by providing ground direction.
• Clean behind the compactor blade with a shovel and hoe as directed.
• Spray and clean the hopper and truck at the end of each shift or as needed.
• Report any safety or customer service issues to the driver and supervisor immediately.
• Perform manual cleanup of scattered refuse and accidental waste spills, ensuring customer containers are properly replaced.
• Work during emergency situations as required.
• Assist other routes as needed to complete daily work.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
• Stay updated on current technology relevant to the job as used by Waste Pro.

Work Environment

Works in varied environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind), noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
