Residential Helper/ Hourly

About the Role

As a Helper, you will assist the refuse truck driver on pre-assigned and special routes to collect garbage, yard waste, or recycling.

Responsibilities

• Pick up solid waste and place it in the back of a rear load garbage truck, often done manually or by pushing toters to the tipper.
• Lift and carry trash bags, bulk items, and containers to the truck for disposal.
• Climb onto and off the rear truck step to load refuse, waste, and carts.
• Operate the packing mechanism to compact waste into the truck.
• Provide courteous and efficient customer service to the public and customers, ensuring a safe and high-quality refuse operation.
• Maintain a positive attitude toward company, customer, and municipal goals.
• Ensure garbage and recyclables at residences are picked up and transferred properly, which may require using the back door.
• Answer questions for residents and direct them to Customer Service or the appropriate government office for additional information.
• Comply with all ANSI, OSHA, and company safety policies, including Waste Pro Absolute Guidelines.
• Assist the Driver in safely backing up the truck by providing ground direction.
• Clean behind the compactor blade with a shovel and hoe when directed.
• Spray and clean the hopper and truck at the end of each shift or as needed.
• Report any safety or customer service-related issues to the driver and supervisor immediately.
• Perform manual cleanup of scattered refuse and ensure customer containers are replaced properly.
• Clean up areas around accidental waste spills.
• Work during emergency situations as required.
• Assist other routes as needed to complete daily work.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
• Attend and participate in corporation-sponsored training courses as assigned.
• Stay up to date on current technology relevant to the job as used by Waste Pro.
• Complete any additional job duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Work Environment

Works in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, weather variations (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind), noise, vibrations, fumes, odors, and dust.
