Residential Direct Support Professional
About the role
The Arc Jefferson St Lawrence is seeking Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who can provide person-centered care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. The role involves supporting the goals and philosophy of the agency, promoting independence, and adhering to the agency's values.
Responsibilities
- Support people we support in buying necessary household equipment and managing personal finances.
- Assist in meal planning and preparation, and provide training in these areas.
- Guide people we support in cleaning, domestic tasks, and maintaining their living spaces.
- Encourage participation in leisure activities and arrange transportation.
- Conduct and document fire drills as required.
- Communicate person’s supported and household supply needs to the Residence Manager.
- Participate in staff meetings and discuss person’s and household needs.
- Respond to crises and implement ADL, interpersonal skill training, and behavioral support programs.
- Administer medications as directed by physicians' orders and maintain certification.
- Attend and pass required in-services and demonstrate proficiency.
- Report any illness, accidents, or changes in the person’s medical status.
- Write incident reports and complete daily nursing notes.
- Maintain the physical plant in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Monitor people we support during their sleeping hours and attend to their needs.
- Perform daily cleaning duties and complete cleaning logs.
- Act as designated in charge in the absence of the Residence Manager.
- Manage personal funds appropriately and ensure proper documentation.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and successful completion of an approved medication course. Experience with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
