About the role

A Brief Overview The Residential Designer uses computer or technical tools to prepare detailed presentation of building material requirements and or systems for assigned project or related segment. This position may design and complete layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Designs residential construction drawings, including roof and floor systems and produces layouts.
  • Discusses changes and corrections with engineers, homeowners, architects and contractors prior to and during construction.
  • Collaborates with the outside sales team to design and present jobs.
  • Prepares residential layouts.
  • Performs job site inspections.
  • Determines special notes to append contracts.
  • Solves architectural and design discrepancies.
  • Assists in the shipping department.
  • Complies with Company’s attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
  • Reads and understands blueprints and detailed technical drawings.
  • Uses computer or other technical equipment to provide a technically accurate layout (takeoff) of customer order.
  • Adheres to local building codes and material constraints when developing material list and design layout.
  • Produce final copies for contractor use for bathrooms, kitchens, decks, patios and others as assigned.
  • Assists customers as required, providing accurate, timely and thorough customer service.
  • Measures and scales projects on-site.
  • Attends training as required to maintain current knowledge of drafting and relevant aspects.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree in civil, architectural or design related field may be required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • 1 year of drafting experience in a construction or building materials-related industry required.

Skills And Abilities

  • Special skills required—Proficient technical writing skills.
  • Excellent salesmanship and communication skills.
  • Proprietary software, AUTOCAD, computer literate, ability to read technical drawings.
  • Special knowledge required—Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
  • Other—PC Literate with Microsoft Office products, AUTO CAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in-house program with ease.

Pay

Pay Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually
