Resident Project Representative / Construction Manager - (Fort Gratiot / Port Huron, MI)

About the role

Brown and Caldwell’s Detroit, MI office has a full-time opportunity for a Resident Project Representative/Construction Manager to join our growing team. This position represents Brown and Caldwell and our clients on construction projects north of Detroit in the communities around Port Huron, MI. Responsibilities include coordination with clients, regulatory agencies, construction managers, and contractors; interpretation of design documents (technical specifications, construction drawings); daily field documentation and reporting; facilitation of progress meetings; communication with the design team; review of pay applications; documentation of field changes; and construction oversight.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quality control and assurance inspections and report on findings.
• Coordinate and oversee non-conformance reporting and closeout.
• Coordinate contractor or subcontractor activities and ensure adherence to project plans.
• Define project scopes and objectives.
• Monitor project progress and provide detailed reports to stakeholders.
• Monitor project schedules and ensure adherence to timelines.
• Assist with complex RFIs and provide accurate responses.
• Implement change management processes and communicate changes effectively.
• Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate health and safety requirements to meet company safety standards.
• Oversee contractor or subcontractor punch list activities to meet project closeout requirements.
• Report on subcontractor and vendor budget performance and change management.
• Adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to less experienced team members.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in construction management or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience preparing design packages and performing construction oversight, inspection, and facility start-up.
• Minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible, professional experience in the design and construction administration of municipal infrastructure water and wastewater facilities.
• Thorough working knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, process, and building mechanical and electrical construction and demolition practices for major public works projects.
• Experience leading or assisting with commissioning, testing, and start-up of process systems/equipment or facilities.
• Experience preparing effective and accurate records/documents and all project, permit, and contract closeout documentation.
• Experience conducting daily field investigations, including preparing, performing, or overseeing daily reports and photo documentation of contractor’s construction activities at multiple sites.
• Ability to access/enter confined space areas for inspections.
• Ability to remain alert and vigilant around construction equipment and walk swiftly to clear potential hazards.
• Ability to climb and/or descend stairs (2-3 flights), ladders (up to 24 feet), or use other safety measures to access structures for visual inspection, including confined spaces.
• Ability to lift objects on job sites less than 30 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: BS degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Candidates without a degree but with significant construction management experience will be considered.
• PE (Professional Engineer) license is preferable but not required.
• Possess 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with a current 8-hour refresher, or ability to obtain it.

• Strong skills in managing contractor or subcontractor activities, monitoring progress, and managing schedules.
• Excellent understanding of scope definition and change management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic understanding of contracts.
• Ability to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.

Pay

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may vary depending on skills, experience, and education:

• Location A: $85,000 - $116,000
• Location B: $94,000 - $128,000
• Location C: $102,000 - $140,000
