PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with welcoming the resident into the Still Waters’ program, including orientation to the environment, program, and resident community as assigned.
- In conjunction with the resident and Residential Peer Care Manager, provides ongoing assessment of resident needs and issues, working collaboratively to create plans of action to address such problems, including family, referral sources, etc., as appropriate.
- Facilitates peer counseling groups daily.
- Facilitates individual peer counseling, as well as family peer counseling as appropriate.
- Provides education, in groups and individually, relative to addiction and recovery to residents and families.
- In conjunction with the Resident Peer Care Manager, communicates with referral sources and families as needed.
- In conjunction with peer counseling team, assists in monitoring and managing resident community.
- Affords assistance with resident’s care with the various off-site providers for medical, psychiatric, or other social needs, including transportation as appropriate.
- Facilitates transportation of residents to off-site 12 Step meetings and activities as assigned.
- Utilizing CPI, intervenes in crises to deescalate situation and resolve crises, using events as entries into recovery process for residents.
- Documents pertinent activities in resident record.
- Participates in daily and weekly team meetings and milieu review.
- Represents the Still Waters program and Cumberland Heights at a variety of community and professional meetings as needed, including presentations and marketing/business development activities as assigned.
- Participates in quality improvement activities as directed.
- Ensures that a welcoming, safe and healing environment is maintained for each resident and family throughout the continuum of care.
- Recommends ways to improve the quality and delivery of services.
- Safeguards proper handling and distribution of company funds.
- Maintains confidentiality of company and resident information.
- Reacts productively to change.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- In-depth working knowledge of all aspects of 12 Step recovery principles, program, and practices, including extensive knowledge of approved 12 Step literature required.
- One (1) year experience in addictions treatment at clinical associate level or above preferred.
- CPRS certification or eligibility preferred.
- Valid Tennessee Driver’s License with F endorsement preferred (may use company van to transport patients).
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft (Outlook, Word and Excel) required.
- Ability to quickly learn and use various clinical software required.
- Ability to problem-solve, analyze, and interpret information required.
- Active listening skills required.
- Knowledge and ability to discern signs/symptoms of intoxication/withdrawal of alcohol and common drugs of abuse required.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and patient needs in a fast-paced environment required.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make crucial decisions while also knowing when consultation is needed required.
- Ability to be open and culturally sensitive to a wide variety of patients’ experiences required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively speak, read and write in English required.
- Ability to interact with patients and co-workers in a collaborative and courteous manner while providing guidance, instruction, and/or training required.
- Ability to model/teach the 12 Step programs and philosophy required.
- Reacting productively to change required.
- Ability to deescalate a person in crisis in a calm and supportive manner; work calmly and professionally in stressful situations and ally with people in crisis required.
- Ability to apply information regarding cultural/age/population specific characteristics to resident care required.
- Ability to present to hostile or disinterested groups required.
- Minimum of one year verifiable and active recovery in a 12 Step program required with two to five years strongly preferred; and/or equivalent in experience and education.
