About the Role

As a Resident I Graduate Nurse in the HCA Nurse Residency Program at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital, you will participate in a year-long, paid program designed to provide hands-on experience and establish valuable clinical and critical thinking skills. The program supports your transition from student nurse to registered nurse through a supportive community of nurse educators, experienced nurses, and fellow residents.

The program includes:

  • Advanced clinical training in a specialty area
  • Monthly educational sessions
  • Preceptorship training with a facility preceptor
  • Measurement and evaluation of skills through hands-on simulations
  • Mentoring from experienced nurse leaders
  • Collaboration on an evidence-based practice project

Cohort start dates and specialties available:

  • 6/29/2026 – Med/Surg and Rehabilitation units
  • 7/13/2026 – Med/Surg and Rehabilitation units
  • 8/10/2026 – Med/Surg and Rehabilitation units

The RN Resident coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with department-specific requirements and state/specialty scope and standards. Using established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage," the RN Resident collaborates with medical providers and the care team to provide individualized, compassionate care while serving as a patient, family, and caregiver advocate.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient condition during admission and each scheduled shift, identifying and reporting changes in patient status
  • Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by medical providers
  • Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient for therapeutic response
  • Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and proactively anticipate patient needs
  • Teach patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, patient status, treatment plans, medications, side effects, and follow-up measures
  • Translate complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Additional certifications may be required during employment
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License or Graduate Nurse status in the State of Florida
  • No previous experience needed
  • Some travel may be required for training
