About the role

Lochner, an Egis company, is recruiting for a Resident Engineer - Rail & Transit position in Lisle, IL. This role involves leading and managing rail/transit construction projects from pre-construction through post-construction and commissioning phases.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage rail/transit projects from pre-construction, construction, & post-construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure project goals are met.
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure the highest standards of workmanship in all aspects of the project.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and cost overruns.
  • Monitor project budgets, control expenses, and track project costs to ensure financial objectives are met.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and adjust as necessary to meet project milestones.
  • Enforce safety protocols and standards to maintain a safe working environment for all project personnel.
  • Provide regular project status reports to senior management and clients.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provides technical direction and guidance to staff and subordinate engineers/inspectors, enforces company and project policies, maintains close client interface, and ensures all facets of the project are constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
  • Supervises field staff, coordinates field activities, and provides project progress reports to the client and Lochner CEI Office Manager.
  • Prepares and manages quality and safety plans for the project.
  • Works with the CEI Office Manager on development and execution of significant project pursuits and delivery.
  • Affirms project opportunity capture strategies, including teaming and positioning for major pursuits, helps in proposal efforts, and identifies required staff resources to win and effectively deliver projects.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with external clients and customers, including industry associations and other potential consultant team members and construction contractors.
  • Acts as a visible leader and trusted advisor to clients by promoting Lochner’s values both internally and externally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineers (PE) license required.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) of resident engineering experience managing rail/transit construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of stations, facilities, rail systems, including communications, train control, OCS, traction power, and electrical design.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
