Job Responsibilities
- Serve as the Resident Engineer and Owner’s field representative for construction oversight activities.
- Monitor contractor operations for compliance with contract plans, specifications, permits, NYSDOT requirements, and FHWA requirements.
- Coverge with Jefferson County, Lu Engineers, contractors, utility companies, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, work plans, shop drawings, schedules, and change order requests.
- Maintain Engineer’s Diary, daily reports, field documentation, photographs, quantity records, and project files in accordance with NYSDOT MURK requirements.
- Verify quantities, prepare contractor payment estimates, and support processing of payment requisitions.
- Monitor maintenance and protection of traffic (MPT/WZTC) operations and overall project safety.
- Administer federally funded project requirements including DBE, EEO, certified payroll, prevailing wage, and EBO compliance.
- Coverge material testing, quality assurance, and material acceptance documentation.
- Attend and participate in preconstruction, progress, and coordination meetings.
- Track project schedule compliance and document delays, claims, and field changes.
- Coverge project closeout activities including punch lists, final inspection, and as-built documentation.
Job Requirements
- Minimum NICET Level III certification. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of transportation, bridge, heavy highway, or civil construction inspection experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience serving as Resident Engineer, Chief Inspector, Lead Inspector, or similar construction oversight role.
- Strong knowledge of NYSDOT Standard Specifications, Construction Inspection Manual (CIM), Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK), and Contract Administration Manual (CAM).
- Experience administering federally funded transportation construction projects.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, shop drawings, schedules, and construction contracts.
- Experience with bridge construction, structural concrete, steel erection, driven piles, roadway reconstruction, and utility coordination preferred.
- OSHA Training preferred.
- Experience with APPIA software and EBO, or similar construction management software preferred.
- Travel on the jobsite may be required.
- Availability for 8 to 10 hr work shifts.
- Valid Driving license, reliable vehicle and current US Work eligibility required.
Pay Range
$50 to $65, Actual pay rate will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications, experience and specific assignment.
