About the role
The Resident Engineer position at KNAPP involves providing comprehensive maintenance support for automated storage and retrieval systems and storage and picking systems installed at customer sites. This role requires a deep understanding of electro-mechanical systems and a commitment to maintaining high levels of equipment utilization and functionality.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and rectify electro-mechanical faults and provide preventative measures for proper operation of equipment based on design specifications.
- Establish and calibrate automation equipment, and analyze the results of precision testing.
- Engineer equipment modifications and designs to complete troubleshooting of PLC-based machinery and highly automated robotics equipment and control systems.
- Respond to emergency calls by Customer, ensuring a quick time resolution of issues.
- Train customer's maintenance team as required.
- Maintain quality of service by ensuring effective communication with customers.
- Execute site quality procedures, safety procedures, and any statutory procedures.
- Participate in regular meetings to discuss activities and progress.
- Ensure that reports are well written and legible.
- Log all spare parts usage issues appropriately and promptly with the Knapp Spare Parts team.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of the tooling and equipment are provided.
- Ensure that all time sheets and documents are accurate and legible; to be submitted to Knapp on biweekly basis for approval.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation or related field.
- 3+ years direct experience preferred.
- 3+ years demonstrated experience in providing repairs on various types of machinery systems, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems including the utilization of 480vac, 240vac, 120vac, and 48vdc, 24vdc, VFDs, and PLCs (Siemens preferred).
- 3+ years experience in equipment maintenance, modifications and design preferred.
- Theoretical and operational experience in the repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of PLC-based machinery, highly automated and robotic equipment and control systems.
- Talent and commitment to provide a unique interpretation or analysis of our systems to customers.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) and or (English/German) preferred but not required.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Process-oriented mentality.
- Network equipment interfaces, a plus.
- Hands-on experience and a team player committed to improving processes.
- Experience in reducing costs through processes and efficiencies.
Skills
- Ability to work against a timeframe to complete reactive repairs.
- Ability to interact with on-site management keeping them informed of repair and maintenance progression and addressing their concerns in a professional manner.
- Ability to appreciate health & safety considerations with regard to given tasks and to carry out risk assessments.
- Ability to read assembly drawings.
- Ability to operate hand tools and assemble parts onto equipment.
- Ability to follow set up instructions, assembly drawings and check lists.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional follow-up skills.
